about

Helping you towards lifelong healing by cultivating change, connection, and the power to thrive.

At Oasis, we provide a safe space for you to come as you are.
We strive to continuously educate ourselves through embracing others’ experiences with honor and respect.
All backgrounds and identities are welcome here.

We specialize in treating trauma, not just through talk, but by working with the entire body to heal life’s everyday traumas as well as life altering ones. Often times when we begin to seek therapy we are struggling with racing thoughts, overwhelming emotions, or troubling body sensations, feeling stuck in destructive patterns and unable to cope with past events. We want to change but aren’t sure how. We may be just going through the motions, barely hanging on. Or we’ve been told that happiness is a choice and we should be able to think our way out of our problems, yet we’re still stuck, wondering if we’re doing it wrong!

Here at Oasis, we don’t want people to just function. We deeply desire for all people to thrive in all aspects of life. We are here to help you cultivate change and connection, to heal and integrate your mind, body, and emotions. When these systems begin to integrate, we begin to thrive, not just survive.

"There are two kinds of suffering. There is the suffering you run away from, which follows you everywhere. And there is the suffering you face directly, and in doing so become free."

Somatic Experiencing Therapy

What is Somatic Experiencing Therapy?

Somatic Experiencing Therapy is a gentle body-centered approach to trauma that is based on the research and clinical work of Dr. Peter Levine. Somatic Experiencing assumes that we all have the innate ability to heal from overwhelming events when the right conditions are created. Somatic Experiencing restores physiological and emotional balance and helps people feel more alive, balanced, and whole. This work is experiential and is most useful with those who have difficulty regulating emotions, are unable to feel calm and relaxed, and need more effective ways to manage stress. Somatic experiencing helps us resolve difficult experiences from the past that are affecting our ability to live life more fully in the present.

Certified practitioners complete a three-year training course (216 hours of instruction) and must complete 18 hours of case consultations and 12 hours of personal sessions.

For more research, check out Peter Levine’s many books including Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma – The Innate Capacity to Transform Overwhelming Experiences and Trauma-Proofing Your Kids: A Parents’ Guide for Instilling Confidence, Joy, and Resilience.

Introduction to SE

Photo by Jen Theodore on Unsplash
  • Trauma is any overwhelming life experience(s) that leaves a lasting imprint on your body, heart and mind and affects your capacity to be both at ease with yourself and others. We experience trauma when something happens to us too much, too fast and too soon or the opposite, not enough for too long.

Who benefits from SE?

  • Everyone benefits from coming home to their bodies and forming deeper, more meaningful connections to themselves. SE is an effective treatment for those experiencing anxiety, depression or those who have experienced one of the many forms of trauma.
